brooklyn 11231 - anthem
a film by Mapi BG and Alejandro Castro
Every place we call home had another come before it.
A house we grew up in. A block we played on.
Familiar smells, colors, and tastes that give us comfort.
Even if we live somewhere new,
A piece of us lingers not wanting to let go.
We hold on and hold on. Until one day, we realize
We've already started holding onto something new.
We’d just been too busy to notice.
Collecting new memories we’ve come to cherish just as strongly.
And, telling new stories that somehow feel oddly familiar.
Where we also grow. And play. And love.
A hidden corner. A tiny studio.
A toast. A lovely garden.
An acquired taste… Or two.
A set of lucky numbers. A long train ride.
A smile. Your smile.
Suddenly and without warning,
The place we currently reside in has become so much more.
A now familiar skyline beckons us back
To the place where gardens bloom.
And, just like all those years ago, we find ourselves thinking
There’s no other place we could ever possibly call home.
